Son Volt – American Central Dust

  • June 29, 2009

Following the demise of the groundbreaking alt. country band Uncle Tupelo, Jay Farrar pursued the evolution of his music with Son Volt, recording three influential albums before a hiatus in which Farrar cut three solo records. Now back with the 3rd post-hiatus Son Volt record (and first release through Rounder) Farrar expands the band’s already rich sound with the inclusion of fiddles, pedal steel, lap steel and piano. American Central Dust laments the rural heartland of the past inhabited with familiar characters searching for meaning through today’s dusty country roads, small towns and abandoned factories. A superb rock and roll album, American Central Dust thoughtfully captures moments in rural America with grace and sadness.
