Matthew E. White – Big Inner

  • August 20, 2012

Matthew E. White – known regionally as the lead in the Richmond, VA improvisational jazz band Fight the Big Bull – is releasing his solo debut Big Inner jointly between Hometapes and his own label, Spacebomb Records. It is a great effort comprised of pop and gospel and calls upon his work with big bands with songs that call upon upwards of 30 musicians in soaring sections of strings, horns and harmonies. Part personal and spiritual with themes of love, death and religion, and part pop history that calls upon influences as diverse and Motown and idol Randy Newman, White delivers a uniquely satisfying collection of pop gospel with jazz sensibilities. Check out the 7” which features “One of These Days” backed with “Ain’t That What Love Is” (with guest Phil Cook of Megafaun on keys). – Written by JFelton
