Nurses – Apple’s Acres

  • September 28, 2009

Portland, OR’s Nurses Apple’s Acres is hushed, a bit off-kilter and a quirky record which draws from vintage psychedelic folk sounds. The Nurses work with very few studio effects but prefer sparse organic instrumentation including piano, light percussion from non-standard kits, flourishes of acoustic and electric guitar distortion and synths. The unique rhythmic patterns carve through the melodies with snapping, clapping, drumming and jangly tambourines. Apple’s Acres is rich with warm, low-fi production and uniquely stands out amongst their indie folk peers.
