Indie folk/rock songwriters Jason Molina (Magnolia Electric Co., Songs: Ohia) and Will Johnson’s (Centro-Matic, South San Gabriel) self-titled debut album of spare blues inspired Americana is soulful and rustic – what one would expect from a collaboration between these two troubadours. The album consists of fourteen slow-moving songs of hushed, intimate reflection and sparse soundscapes. Molina’s Will Oldham-esque vocals and lyrics are poetic and conjure images that resonate with the listener. Johnson’s vocals are slightly lower and raspier, invoking a more intimate experience.
