Lissie Maurus, an Illinois native by-way-of California, released her debut album Why You Runnin’ exhibiting her raw and hauntingly beautiful vocals. Why You Runnin’ features songs that range from the spirited opener “Little Lovin,” to the tear jerking “Wedding Bells,” and the soulful ballads “Everywhere I Go” and “Here Before.” The album was recorded at her farmhouse and at Echo Mountain Studio in Asheville, NC with Bill Reynolds (Band of Horses), and guest musician Tyler Ramsey (guitar, Band of Horses), the exception being “Oh Mississippi” which was recorded with Ed Harcourt in London. The five songs on Why You Runnin’ are expansive and saturated with a warm, rustic tenderness that comes from broken hearts on the mend. – Written by JFelton
