Brotherhood of the Jug Band Blues – Word to Mother

  • December 14, 2009

The Brotherhood of the Jug Band Blues got their start in the NYC subway system as part of Music Under New York (MUNY) program sponsored by the MTA. The Brotherhood is comprised of former jug bands The Brooklyn Jugs and Jug Free America including: Steve Strohmeier, Brooklyn Slim a.k.a. “Stoned Wheat Thin” (vocals, guitar, harmonica, kazoo); Ernesto “Lovercat” Gomez (vocals, guitar, harmonica); Arturo “the Jugman” Stile (vocals, harmonica); and Eli “Sweet Son” Smith (vocals, washboard). Word to Mother features the Brotherhood of the Jug Band Blues’ unique blend of traditional jug band of the ‘20s and ‘30s and blues music, mixed with the urban influences of New York City. If you are ever in NYC keep and eye out for them as their live performances are not to be missed. – Written by JFelton
