The Mumlers – Don’t Throw Me Away

  • January 4, 2010

San Jose six-piece The Mumlers blend elements of soul, folk and country sounds on their sophomore album Don’t Throw Me Away. The Mumlers’ ability to merge many instruments into tight, eclectic and rollicking tunes makes for an instantly enjoyable album that includes guitars, drums, upright bass, keyboards, euphonium, french horn, trumpet, clarinet, tambourine and pedal steel. Vintage organs and amps lend Don’t Throw Me Away a world-weary timelessness to the achy ballads and uptempo tracks. Standout tracks include “Tangled Up with You,” “99 Years Ago,” the title track, and the boisterous “Coffin Factory.” Altogether, the album is a stellar second release from one of Northern California’s up-and-coming bands. – Written by JFelton
