Harlem – Hippies

  • February 15, 2010

Harlem continues their run on cocky, yet good-hearted, garage rock with Hippies, the follow-up to their debut, Free Drugs. Originally from Tucson, their raucous, tongue-in-cheek blend of lo-fi rock and mischievous antics found a home – and a record deal with Matador – in Austin. Often compared to King Khan and the Black Lips, “Friendly Ghost” is a great example of Harlem’s guitar riffs and catchy choruses. “Cloud Pleaser,” a song about heartbreak, shows the band’s softer side, but still keeps its sense of humor as they sing “I love all the people/Most of all I love you/But I don’t know how you can be so dumb.” – Written by DBosket
