The Black Atlantic – Reverence for the Fallen Trees

  • March 24, 2010

The Black Atlantic is Geert van der Velde, Marcel Wolthof, and Kim Janssen of the Netherlands with Brooklyn-based Leo Maymind (Spanish Prisoners) and Peter Silberman (The Antlers). Reverence for Fallen Trees was recorded in a cabin surrounded by the isolated beauty of the Adirondacks, an environment that emanates throughout the album. The mood of the album is stark and minimalist, with subtly changing piano or guitar chords, distinctive percussions, and soft background vocals, layered with introspective, melancholic lyrics. Reverence for the Fallen Trees is a cathartic listening experience that is gorgeous, intimate and heartfelt. – Written by JFelton
