Lawrence Arabia – Chant Darling

  • April 1, 2010

60’s pop and Kiwi charm are mixed together on Chant Darling, the second album by New Zealander James Milne, a.k.a. Lawrence Arabia. Milne has also played with Okkervil River and released an album with the band, The Reduction Agents, who contributed to the quirky Eagle vs. Shark soundtrack. Milne keeps everything pretty light on Chant Darling, from the upbeat “Apple Pie Bed” to the rambling, catchy “Beautiful Young Crew.” Chant Darling, strongly influenced by The Beatles and The Beach Boys, is an enjoyable album of sunny melodies and sly lyrics that will be on heavy rotation at this reviewer’s home this spring and summer. – Written by DBosket
