Pokey LaFarge and the South City Three – Riverboat Soul

  • April 7, 2010

Pokey LaFarge and the South City Three hail from St. Louis and play in the grand tradition of jug/stringbands and riverboat ragtime. Over the course of the 12 tracks on Riverboat Soul, singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist LaFarge, who took to the open roads at a young age in hobo fashion, spins tales of cheating women, corruption, drifters and gamblers. Riverboat Soul includes a few traditional songs like “Old Black Dog” and “In the Graveyard Now” alongside originals such as “La La Blues,” “Bag of Bones” and “Two-Faced Tom.” With this record, LaFarge brings his irresistible charm and authentic experiences to traditional music in contemporary times. – Written by JFelton
