Whispering Pines – Family Tree

  • April 20, 2010

Hailing from Silver Lake, CA, Whispering Pines’ debut release is a rousing, hearty album of straightforward, countrified rock ‘n’ roll. Named after the song by The Band, this five-piece plays music that is a throwback to Southern rock in the best sense. It’s as if The Allman Brothers and Lynyrd Skynyrd decided to have a baby together and named it Whispering Pines. Blaring harmonica, sweet harmonies, and some damn good guitar playing make up this album of Americana, rootsy rock. Standout tracks include the slow ballad “Stars Above,” a cover of J.J. Cale’s “Crazy Mama,” and Rolling Stones-influenced “Brand New Beat.” – Written by DBosket
