Burlap Wolf King – The Middle

  • May 3, 2010

Sioux Falls, South Dakota based Burlap Wolf King (Thomas Hentges) plays a mix of soulful folk, psychedelic blues and roots rock. The 09 debut The Middle features a mostly autobiographical collection of lonesome travel songs that capture the Dakota landscape (abandoned farms, rural back roads, train tracks), workingman anxiety and class differences. Hentges faithfully channels the 60s/70s singer/songwriter with his raw emotion, thoughtfulness and the honesty of a man that lives what he sings. Standout tracks include the gorgeous “Swallow’s Song” and the rollicking jukebox jam “Serpent’s Kiss.” I met Hentges while waiting in line for a show at SXSW and we immediately bonded over our penchant for Americana music, and I’m glad we did because he’s a genuine soulful presence and an impressive singer/songwriter himself. – Written by JFelton
