Nicki Bluhm – Toby’s Song

  • May 11, 2010

The striking vocalist/guitarist Nicki Bluhm and her five-piece band The Gramblers tap the classic West Coast country-folk and blues rock music of the 60’s and 70’s, evoking artists like CSN&Y, Joni Mitchell and The Byrds. Toby’s Song was produced by her husband Tim (Mother Hips – vocals) at his San Francisco studio, and is a collection of originals like the title track – an ode to her dog who passed away during the recording of the album – as well as a few choice covers, including a version of the Kenny Loggins classic “Danny’s Song.” While the Bluhms share vocal duties on several tracks and featured artists John Hofer (Mother Hips – drums) and Jackie Greene lend a hand, the centerpiece is Nicki’s impressive vocals which ground the record, effortlessly blending eclectic styles. – Written by JFelton
