Brothers – the sixth album by The Black Keys and their third on Nonesuch Records – finds the band retreating from the hazy production of the Danger Mouse influenced Attack & Release and into the legendary Muscle Shoals Sound Studio in Alabama (host to many soul and blues greats – Wilson Pickett, Aretha Franklin, Staple Singers). In addition to the MSSS and the 70’s inspired cover art, Brothers marks the return of the raw blues of the Black Keys’ earlier records while maintaining hints of the psychedelic influences of their later releases. Brothers is full of dirty, gritty blues rock with fuzzy guitars, analog keyboards, and vast drums and the always exceptional songwriting of Dan Auerbach (vocals, guitar) and Patrick Carney (drums); it is a welcome return to the mix of southern blues and indie rock that caught my ear in the early 00’s. – Written by JFelton
