Everest – On Approach

  • May 27, 2010

On Approach, Everest’s follow-up to their 2008 debut, Ghost Notes, combines sweeping pop songwriting with a little country, a little rock ‘n’ roll, and a bit of modern soul. Confused? Don’t be! This LA band’s sound may be hard to imagine, but it’s easy to listen to. Songs are quite catchy, with lots of interesting arrangements and piercing vocals by Russell Pollard. Traces of Dr. Dog (On Approach was mixed by Rob Schnapf, who produced Dr. Dog’s Shame, Shame), Wilco, and even a little Neil Finn can be heard on the album. Standouts include the sweeping stadium rock song “Keeping the Score” and bold opening track “Let Go.” – Written by DBosket
