During the course of Wagner’s two previous albums he transitioned from Chicago to New Orleans and back again with the release of his current record Those Who Forgive. Inspired by the musical heritage of Wilco, Calexico and Gram Parsons, this record highlights whiskey infused country with Bourbon Street guitar arrangements. A darker album with a slower overall tempo than previous releases, Those Who Forgive showcases Wagner playing guitar, harmonica, and piano, with sparse arrangements and subtle production nuances. Amidst the intimate melodies and accomplished musicianship, what stands out is Wagner’s songwriting and warm, expansive vocals.
