American Analog Set frontman Andrew Kenny’s new project Wooden Birds strips away the synth and electronic beats of AmAnSet in favor of a mellow vibe and hushed vocals over a folk base. Magnolia has a low-key pace with a hypnotic, lyrical and melodic repetition, making even an up-tempo song sedate. The featuring tracks highlight simple acoustic guitars and Kenny’s mellow vocals accompanied by the talents of members from Sparklehorse, Ola Podrida and Lymbyc Systym. Magnolia is laid-back, charming, and an instantly likeable new direction for Kenny.
