Adam Torres – Pearls to Swine

  • October 9, 2016

Austin, TX based singer/songwriter Adam Torres released his sophomore album Pearls to Swine ten years after 2006’s Nostra Nova. During that intervening decade, Torres finished college in Athens, Ohio, then dedicated several years to charity work in South America and returned to the states for graduate school in Texas. In 2012, Torres released a new limited set of lo-fi demos via a Washington, D.C. cassette label which alongside Nostra Nova persuaded Fat Possum to release his next album. Pearls to Swine is more solitary dusty and polished than his sprawling debut. Recorded live to tape, Torres showcases his warbled falsetto and guitar picking along with Aisha Burns (violin), Thor Harris (percussion), and Dailey Toliver (bass, piano). The songs on Pearls to Swine conjure vivid imagery and contemplative stories. Highlights include: the road song “High Lonesome”; the gorgeous “Juniper Arms”; the introspective “Morning Rain”; and the ethereal “Outlands.” Pearls to Swine is a near perfect record and definitely one of the best releases of the year! – Written by JFelton
