The xx – Coexist

  • September 11, 2012

Young South London trio The xx took they world by storm with their 2009 self-titled debut and their highly anticipated second full-length, Coexist, is out today. Romy Madley-Croft (vocals), Oliver Sim, and Jamie Smith are known for their indie pop, and here they expand in surprisingly sophisticated and sparse ways, crafting sound, space and silence. As the title implies, the lyrical focus is love and heartbreak with the alluring voices of Croft and Sim ruminating on where things went wrong, set to guitar, piano, synth, bass, steel pans, and beats. While the whole album is a true standout, a few particularly notable tracks include opening number “Angels”, “Fiction” and “Reunion.” – Written by SMarx
