The Avett Brothers – The Carpenter

  • September 29, 2012

North Carolina quartet The Avett Brothers are out with their latest full-length The Carpenter – a stunning album of finely crafted, expertly played country folk. With producer Rick Rubin once again at the helm, the band returns to a simpler, edgier sound of earlier works such as Emotionalism and Mignonette while abandoning the piano that so dominated their last release. The Avett Brothers continue to mine universal themes of death, rebirth and fear while maintaining an unwavering sense of optimism, all executed with passionate yet sincere vocals. Standouts include opener “The Once and Future Carpenter” – an expansive yet meticulously crafted ’70s folk-rock gem – as well as “Live and Die”, “Winter In My Heart”, and “Pretty Girl From Michigan.” – Written by JFelton
