Ben Lubeck – Rented Rooms

  • September 6, 2016

Minneapolis based singer/songwriter Ben Lubeck (Farewell Milwaukee) has released his solo debut Rented Rooms – an album that explores his complicated relationship with a father who suffers from depression. Produced by longtime friend Brad Bivens (Gill Landry, Dawes, Robert Ellis), together they paired down 40 songs to the final 10, and were joined by a veritable who’s who of Minnesota musicians: Jake Hanson (Halloween, Alaska), Adam Levy (jazz guitarist), Alex Young (Jeremy Messersmith, Honeydogs), Jake Luppen (Hippo Campus), Andy Dee (lap steel), Pat Mazurek (Big Lake), Andy Thompson (Jeremy Messersmith), Luke Reynolds (Guster), and Ben Kyle (Romantica). A few standouts include: the opener “Right Time”; the contemplative “Roll on”; and the roots rocker “Love Cuts Glass.” All-in-all, Rented Rooms is a solid debut from a talented young musician and I look forward to the next album. – Written by JFelton
