First there was Royal Trux, then there was RTX (Rad Times Xpress), and now Jennifer Herrema continues to rock with her latest incarnation, Black Bananas. Herrema, the original inspiration for Steven Meisel’s Calvin Klein heroin chic ad campaign, remains larger than life, fronting the bubblegum trash metal rock band only spicing it up with synth-pop and auto-tune on Rad Times Xpress IV. The 13 tracks range from psychedelic and fuzzed out guitar tunes to 80’s metal and warehouse party industrial. Black Bananas is at its best on club hits like “Hot Stupid” and “Do It.” While the sound is not for everyone, those who like their rock hard core and frontwomen sharp, brash, and epic, will find much to love in this album. – Written by SMarx
