The Black Swans – Occasion For Song

  • July 30, 2012

The Black Swans’ fifth album of Americana is Occasion for Song, the Ohio based band’s first album without co-founder/violinst Noel Sayre, who passed away in a swimming accident. Like their hauntingly beautiful 2011 release Don’t Blame The Stars which included Sayre’s final recordings, Occasion for Song is fully steeped in his memory, from the melancholy mood to lyrics which follow lead singer/guitarist Jerry DeCicca’s cycle of grief. Characteristically DeCicca weaves spoken word and sung vocals together backed by the stark, open soundscape notably devoid of violin yet filled with warmth from the analog recording. The Black Swans are gradually emerging from a sad and significant period of loss with artistic creativity and careful craftsmanship, making their latest another powerful achievement. – Written by SMarx
