Bombino – Nomad

  • August 7, 2013

Hailing from the African nation of Niger is Omara Moctar (a.k.a. Bombino), who brings his native nomadic Tuareg traditions to Nashville on the aptly titled full length, Nomad. This 11 track collaboration with Dan Auerbach (The Black Keys) follows-up 2011’s Agadez, featuring Tuareg rhythms mixed with southern blues aesthetics and psychedelic music. Nomad is a masterful show of unique and mesmerizing guitar stylings informed by the free-flowing, melodic sensibilities of African music as well as Jimi Hendrix and Mark Knopfler. Standouts include the garage guitar jam “Amidine”, the swirling hooks on “Imuhar”, and the lovely “Tamiditine”. Nomad is a wonderful listen from start to finish and one of the most interesting albums of the year. – Written by JFelton
