Bonnie “Prince” Billy’s (a.k.a Will Oldham) strengths as a songwriter and bandleader shape his latest album Beware into something dark and beautiful. Oldham’s rickety vocals and hill-country lilt give his albums a distinct sound, but the impulsive compositions, abrupt horns, emotive fiddles and heavy reverb give this record a unique quality. The songs come together to form a richly organic and textured album conveying fervent emotions and a slowly burning intimacy that smolders throughout the album’s overall darkness. Special guests include ex-Mekon Jon Langford and former Wilco multi-instrumentalist Leroy Bach.
