Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy – Now Here’s My Plan

  • June 14, 2012

The brilliant and prolific Will Oldham is at it again, this time releasing both a book and a six-track EP, Now Here’s My Plan. The six originals are not new, but are re-envisioned Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy notables recorded with Steve Albini and backed by his Wolfroy Goes to Town band of Ben Boye, Van Campbell, Emmett Kelly, Danny Kiely and Angel Olsen. These versions are compelling in different ways than the originals, whether it is in tone/mood, tempo, or arrangements. Fans will enjoy the retakes, which also serve as an appetizer for Domino’s reissue of six Palace Brothers / Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy albums recorded between 1996 and 2004: Arise Therefore (1996), Joya (1997), I See a Darkness (1999), Ease Down the Road (2001), Master and Everyone (2003) and Greatest Palace Music (2004). Together these releases form a fitting retrospective for the artist and function as a primer for those new to this Americana legend in the making. – Written by JFelton
