The Brothers Comatose – City Painted Gold

  • April 10, 2016

The San Francisco Americana/bluegrass quintet Brothers Comatose released their third album, City Painted Gold, a highly anticipated album inspired by their Haight-Ashbury neighborhood. To quote Ben Morrison (vocals, guitar), “We wrote this album living in San Francisco as it was changing from a weird, art friendly mecca to a place that only super rich tech workers can afford.” With two excellent albums already under their belt, City Painted Gold is another stellar album featuring polished musicianship and close-knit sibling harmonies with a timeless devotion to both traditional bluegrass and contemporary sensibilities. Highlights include: the instantly infectious “Angelina”; the driving “How the West Was Won”; the twangy “Knoxville Foxhole”; and the upbeat heartbreaker, “She’s a Hurricane.” – Written by JFelton
