Buddy Miller is a musician’s musician: longtime Nashville session guitarist, producer (Robert Plant’s Band of Joy), and Americana /roots composer. On his latest compilation The Majestic Silver Strings, Miller is joined by a cast of all stars, featuring in particular fellow guitarists Bill Frisell (jazz), Marc Ribot (rock, experimental), and Greg Leisz (pedal steel). Miller shines on this set of country classics and originals recorded in his home studio; at times he risks becoming overshadowed by the others, but ultimately Miller proves the unwavering constant that creates a cohesive whole. Also providing vocals are Patti Griffin, Emmy Lou Harris, Shawn Colvin, Lee Ann Womack, and Ann McCrary; yet one of the best songs is the closer – a stunning duet by Buddy and his wife Julie, “God’s Wing’ed Horse.” Don’t let this excellent album pass you by. – Written by JFelton
