Record Dept has reviewed a number of Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy albums, including 2010’s Wonder Show of the World and that year’s Pickathon shows – both collaborative efforts with guitarist Emmett Kelly and his band The Cairo Gang. So it is with great anticipation that we awaited Corner Man – Kelly’s first solo album in six years which brings the many talents of this multi-instrumentalist to vivid life. The set of eight folk songs are spare and tightly crafted, honed with Kelly’s commanding yet finely nuanced voice at the forefront and lovely harmonies and guitar following suite.
