D. Charles Speer and the Helix – Leaving The Commonwealth

  • July 13, 2011

Leaving the Commonwealth is the third full length album by Brooklyn quintet D. Charles Speer & the Helix. Multi-instrumentalist Speer (a.k.a. Dave Shuford) of the No Neck Blues Band, Enos Slaughter, The Suntanama, Egypt Is The Magick #, and Coach Fingers, brings an alternative narrative type of country rock, with a deep dose of twang and some killer pedal steel, courtesy of Marc Orleans (Juneau, Eleven Twenty-Nine, Acid Twangers, Spore, Sunburned Hand of the Man). The nine song release has a bunch of kick and charm, with the best numbers “Razorbacked” “Days in the Kitchen”, and “Cumberland.” – Written by JFelton
