Concluding the final installment of Colin Stetson’s New History Warfare trilogy, To See More Light continues both stylistically and thematically where its predecessors left off. To See More Light showcases intense saxophone that that sounds similar to loop-based music, only Stetson records in single live takes with no overdubs while taking elements of jazz, modern composition, and electronic music. While largely experimental, New History Warfare, Vol. 3, includes guest vocals from Justin Vernon (Bon Iver) on four songs, but it’s Stetson’s technical proficiency and ability to conjure vivid and moody landscapes that keeps listeners along for the thrilling sonic ride. – Written by JFelton
