Cory Branan – Mutt

  • June 13, 2012

Cory Branan’s third album (and first on Bloodshot Records) is a real Americana gem. The aptly titled Mutt showcases a range of Americana sounds, from blues to rock and roots to honky tonk, as well as the narrative influences of great artists like Bruce Springsteen, John Prine, Tom Waits and Raymond Carver. The native Mississippi singer-songwriter was raised in a musical family as the son of a drummer and got his early start fronting a Black Sabbath cover band. Now settled in Nashville, Branan’s come a long way, and his craft improves with age, creating one of the best albums of 2012. – Written by JFelton
