When The Hold Steady went on a four month break this past summer, frontman Craig Finn got to work on his debut solo album, Clear Heart Full Eyes. It was in Austin that the Brooklynite met up with producer Mike McCarthy (Spoon, Trail of Dead), and with local musicians Josh Block (White Denim), Jesse Ebaugh (The Heartless Bastards), Ricky Ray Jackson (Phosphorescent), and Billy White (Centro-matic). The eleven tracks showcase Finn’s newly discovered songwriting talent, with heartfelt lyrics narrating the lives of the lonely, struggling, and heartbroken.
