Old Crow Medicine Show – Carry Me Back

  • August 9, 2012

Nashville string band Old Crow Medicine Show is out with their fourth studio album of excellent old timey Americana, Carry Me Back. Following 2008’s successful Tennessee Pusher produced by Don Was and the recording of their latest, the line-up has seen major changes: founding members Critter Fuqua and Ketch Secor have reconciled while Willie Watson (lead vocals, guitar) departed and Cory Younts (mandolin) took temporary leave to perform in Jack White’s backing band. Gill Landry (slide guitar, banjo) no longer is the newest member, giving that title to Chance McCoy (fiddle). This time around the 12 tracks were produced by Ted Hutt, and the band keeps their spirits high and sounds soaring, with a more refined polish. While the entire album is stellar, notable singles include the title track, “Carry Me Back (To Virginia)” and “Ain’t It Enough.” Additionally, their biggest hit – a swinging country cover of Bob Dylan’s “Wagon Wheel” – recently turned gold, and in celebration of this milestone, the band is offering a limited edition 7” vinyl. – Written by JFelton
