Lower Dens – Nootropics

  • April 8, 2012

Following the release of their debut Twin-Hand Movement, Lower Dens hit the road for a year of hardcore touring with acts such as Beach House, Deerhunter, and The Walkmen. Now the Baltimore band is out with their second release, Nootropics which retains the mood of the first with lead singer Jana Hunter and her low, hushed vocals at the helm. The album has high lyrical aspirations like advocating for transhumanism – using technology to expand the human potential, and in the case of nootropics, using chemically engineered drugs to enhance cognitive experience – yet remains accessible due to the laid-back shoegaze vibe and droning melodies. Check out this fascinating convergence of sound and sensibilities. – Written by SMarx
