Brooklyn collective Dirty Projectors are out with their sixth album Swing Lo Magellan and it is a surprising and welcome departure from their characteristic eclectic math-rock meets afro pop sound. The follow-up to 2009’s Bitte Orca is looser and less eccentrically erratic, resembling something closer to soul and R&B. Frontman/songwriter David Longstreth retains Dirty Projectors’ uniqueness while venturing into more personal and emotional territory, resulting in their most accessible album to date.
