Dum Dum Girls – End of Daze

  • December 18, 2012

Dum Dum Girls started out as a punky and plucky girl group led by Kristin Gundred (formerly of San Diego’s Grand Ole Party) a.k.a. Dee Dee, but life outside of rock and roll has waged a toll on the band the past couple years, pushing the group to develop a mature and sophisticated sound. Their recent five-track EP End of Daze was recorded in 2011 and 2012 with Sune Rose Wagner (The Raveonettes) and Richard Gottehrer (Blondie, The Go-Go’s) and features four originals and a cover of Strawberry Switchblade’s “Trees and Flowers.” As Gundred processed the unexpected illness and death of her mother, a darkness set upon the songs, eliciting grief, sadness, and painful beauty. While heavy themes are pervasive, among the darkness and touches of drone are positive beats and light, keeping fans sated while hopeful for Dum Dum Girls’ next move. – Written by SMarx
