Elliott Brood – Days Into Years

  • November 22, 2011

Toronto, Ontario based alt-country band Elliott Brood follows-up the Juno and Polaris Prize nominated Mountain Meadows with their third full-length effort, Days Into Years. Whereas 2009’s lens focused on the 1857 massacre in Utah, this time their self-styled historic “death country” is inspired by the sacrifices of Canadians in the two world wars. The ten tracks are densely textured and heavy with loss and mortality, richly conjured in the finely crafted songwriting. The immensely talented trio of Mark Sasso (vocals, guitar, banjo, ukulele, harmonica), Casey Laforet (guitar, bass pedals, keys, ukulele), and Stephen Pitkin (percussion, sampler), present dark corners of history in way that is profoundly respectful and musically compelling; Days into Years is not to be missed. – Written by JFelton
