Eva Salina – Sings Šaban Bajramovic

  • March 10, 2016

Brooklyn based vocalist and Balkan music aficionado Eva Salina dedicates her new album to Serbian Gypsy (Roma) singer Šaban Bajramovic, one of the most influential vocalists from the genre in Eastern Europe. In this tribute, Salina combines contemporary and traditional music influences with the help of her longtime musical partner, Romani accordionist Peter Stan. They are joined by artists from the New York Balkan, Gypsy and Klezmer scene like Slavic Soul Party!, Kultur Shock, and The Klezmatics, along with special guests recorded during a 2015 trip to Serbia. Instrumentation is myriad, to great effect, including: trumpet, piccolo trumpet, flugelhorn, alto horn, Farfisa organ, tuba, tenor horn, guitar, bass, drums, deep Singh, dhol, dholak, tapan, Moog synthesizer and even sampling and drum beats. Eva Salina Sings Šaban Bajramovic is contagious and engaging endeavor – even if you are not heavily into World, Balkan, Gypsy, or Klezmer music, go out and give it a listen – you will be pleasantly surprised! – Written by JFelton
