Flantland Cavalry – Humble Folks

  • March 7, 2017

Texas based Flatland Cavalry’s debut album, Humble Folks, was released this past April and somehow escaped my attention until now. Humble Folks is a spirited country-folk and Americana album and, like all the best Texan music, it gets your toes tapping one moment and crying in your beer the next. Founded in 2012 by friends Cleto Cordero (guitar, vocals) and Jason Albers (drums), the band became a five-piece outfit with the additions of Jonathan Saenz (bass), Laura Jane (fiddle), and Reid Dillion (guitar). Highlights on the LP include: the catchy “A Good Memory”; the tender wanderlust of “Traveler’s Song”; the heartbroken lament “Goodbye Kiss”; the ballad “Coyote” featuring a guest appearance from fellow Texan William Clark Green; and the melancholy “February Snow.” Flatland Cavalry is a great up-and-coming band filled with promising young talent, and Humble Folks is a strong debut. I can’t wait for their next album. – Written by JFelton
