Foxygen – We are The 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace and Magic

  • April 13, 2013

Foxygen (duo Sam France and Jonathan Rado) return with their full-length, We Are the 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace and Magic, an album built on a eclectic mix of ’60s and ’70s pop music sounds that draw from The Kinks to the Velvet Underground, from David Bowie to the New York Dolls, as well as many contemporary indie sounds. Produced by multi-instrumentalist Richard Swift, the record is heavily laden with flashy, psychedelic riffs making it a glorious bridge between many decades of music. Notable tracks include the big city lament on “No Destruction”, the psychedelic swirl of “San Francisco”, the gritty Stones meets Elvis track “On Blue Mountain”, the Rocky Horror Show-esque “Suspicious Minds”, “Oh No”, and the catchy first single “Shuggie.” In its own way, Foxygen are ambassadors of great musicianship who bring peace and magic with this album, defying a trend of tepid, generic pop and turning out a catchy collection where every track has its own unique vibe. – Written by JFelton
