Freelance Whales – Diluvia

  • September 20, 2012

Diluvia, the second release from Queens, NY band Freelance Whales, is the grand culmination of their trademark folk rock and recent experimentation with electronics and pulsating rhythms. Their debut was notable for its dreamy atmospherics, nostalgia and reliance on the banjo; with “Diluvia” producer Shane Stoneback (Vampire Weekend, Sleigh Bells, Cults) helps the band navigate an edgy indie vibe as well as some cosmic existential ideas. The title itself is an apt, if not crowded analogy, as Diluvia is the flotsam and jetsam caused by Freelance Whales’ flood of fantastical imaginings, specifically their musings on the fate of futuristic and pre-historic space travelers. But for all its science fiction aspirations, this sophomore effort is sure to please. Check out their promo track and video “Locked Out”, which is creating quite a buzz. – Written by JFelton
