Shawn Fogel, under the moniker Golden Bloom, recently released his six-song debut EP, March to the Drums. Comprised of upbeat indie-pop tracks – three of which are more like instrumental interludes – March to the Drums is simply full of infectious hooky melodies and carefree tunes all sung and played by the talented multi-instrumentalist (guitar, piano, bells). While some of the lyrics tend toward the dark and Fogel constructed the album by perfecting the parts instead of conceiving the tracks as an integral part of a cohesive whole, nevertheless the EP is a great first-time effort.
