Okra and Ecclesiastes aren’t an obvious pair but they vividly conjure the deep South, and Grant Peeples’ third album does indeed deliver gritty Southern gothic stories and sounds. A talented multi-instrumentalist from northern Florida, Peeples lays down acoustic and electric guitar, drums, bass, and keyboards and is joined by Austin locals (where Okra and Ecclesiastes was recorded) on backing vocals, accordion and pedal steel. Peeples is a straight shooter who speak/sings of folks working hard just to make it, and he does so with compassion and wit. Among the best tracks are “Power Lines”, “Down Here in the Country”, and “My People Come from Dirt.” – Written by JFelton
