The Great American Desert – Carson City

  • July 16, 2012

Max Holmquist, formerly known as South of Lincoln, has released his debut album of sparse folk as The Great American Desert. Carson City explores the native singer-songwriter’s love for his Nevada hometown through vivid character sketches in his deep, affecting vocals and strummed guitar. The nine tracks deal with love, loss, family, and addiction – the stories of the downtrodden and overlooked who are perceived by others the way that pioneer explorers saw the land – the great, hopeless American desert. But Holmquist sees promise in the passion and culture that lies below the surface, giving life to the gambling husbands, runaway daughters, and troubled lovers. Check out this impressive release on his Bandcamp site. – Written by JFelton
