Hayes Carll – Lovers and Leavers

  • June 7, 2016

For nearly fifteen years, Hayes Carll has been crafting some of the best contemporary country music, filled with rich irony, incisive storytelling, and catchy melodies. Carll’s fifth album, Lovers and Leavers, was produced by Joe Henry and is a departure from past albums in its sparseness, spaciousness and candid perspective. In the past, Carll’s stories were inhabited by richly rendered characters caught in the moment, doing their own thing and not giving a damn. This latest set of songs reflect wisdom gained from hard living and embracing gratitude, loss, and love. Highlights include: the bittersweet “Good While It Lasted”; “Pace car “Drive” which was co-written with Jim Lauderdale; the country waltz “You Leave Alone”; the southern gothic tinged “Sake of the Song”; the Tom Petty-esque “The Love That We Need”‘ and the breezy organ ditty “Love Is So Easy.” – Written by JFelton
