Holly Macve – Golden Eagle

  • April 24, 2017

Golden Eagle is the debut of 21 year old Irish-born British-based singer/songwriter Holly Macve, who’s gorgeous twangy vocals and lilting yodel bring to mind Patsy Cline or Gillian Welch. Growing up, Macve was highly influenced by her mother’s record collection, which included everyone from Elvis Presley and Bob Dylan to later discoveries like Leonard Cohen and Johnny Cash. Which explains why a Yorkshire, England based musician is able to capture scenes from rural America so well. Highlights include: the gorgeous lament “White Bridge”; the lovelorn “Heartbreak Blues”; the somewhat jangly single “No One Has the Answers”; the beautiful piano waltz and title track “Golden Eagle”; and lastly, the reflective closer, “Sycamore Tree.” Holly Macve is a young talent with a riveting voice and a penchant for traditional sounds, and I can’t wait to see how she matures on future albums. – Written by JFelton
