Jim White – Where It Hits You

  • February 28, 2012

Where It Hits You, the latest full length album from Athens, GA based songwriter/ folk rock musician / outsider artist Jim White, is a excellent collection of work. White has a long history of experimenting with genres, arrangements, and delivery, making a sensation with his 1997 debut Wrong-Eyed Jesus (which later inspired a 2004 documentary film about country music and Christianity in the rural South). So it was with a spirit of hope and a bit of a gamble that White left his longtime label Luaka Bop and dedicated his savings to making the album. Midway through writing the album, his wife left him for a younger man and almost left him homeless. But White persevered and prevailed, emerging from the devastation with a richly rendered set of country-tinged songs. Standouts include opener “Chase the Dark Away”, “State of Grace”, and “Epilogue to a Marriage.” – Written by JFelton
