Joan Shelley – Joan Shelley

  • August 23, 2017

Louisville, Kentucky-based singer/songwriter Joan Shelly follow-up’s 2015’s gorgeous Over and Even release with a self-titled album. This collection is slightly more upbeat than the previous release and again showcases Shelley’s flowing melodies, heart-rending lyrics and stunning vocals alongside the acoustic guitar of longtime collaborator (and neighbor), Nathan Salsburg. Recorded in Chicago with Jeff Tweedy (Wilco), the 11 tracks focus primarily on Shelley’s flawless voice paired with complementing musicians like Spencer Tweedy (drums) and virtuoso James Elkington (guitar). Album highlights include: the gentle call-and-response opener “We’d Be Home”; the elongated melody of “Wild Indifference”; the dark and bluesy “I Got What I Wanted”; the piano driven “Pull Me Up One More Time”; and the heartfelt love song “Where I’ll Find You.” Joan Shelley is a brilliant talent and this album is another great addition to her discography in what I think will be a long and productive career. – Written by JFelton
